Environmental commitment. Many talk about it. We’ve always had it. Thinking of you goes beyond meeting your needs today; it is in our commitment to make Electrolux appliances more environmentally responsible and to help you reduce your electricity and water consumption. We have therefore integrated sustainability into our operations, from factory emissions to product performance.
Respect for the environment is in the genetic code of the Electrolux Group. This is a strong claim confirmed over years of continuous growth and has led us to occupy a leading position in the field of household appliances, floorcare and professional food service appliances.
A long time before Kyoto, where the international community officially acknowledged the need to plan a future in which consumption, industry and environment found a sustainable route for their growth, Electrolux was already committed to developing products and production processes that made it possible not only to offer better operational performance, but also and more importantly to save energy, water and detergents to minimise environmental impact.
The consumption resources, including water and energy, used by a household appliance’s operation represents 72% of the environmental impact generated throughout its entire lifecycle. Approximately 10% of all the energy consumed in Australia powers household appliances. Therefore when considering sustainable development, it is critical that in the design and production of appliances, minimising the consumption of energy, water and detergents is an absolute priority. The correct approach to the problem also requires a 360° appraisal of all elements of the supply chain, including materials, production processes and logistics.
Electrolux appears on the Dow Jones Sustainability Global Index and have been included in the FTS4Good index of the London Stock Exchange since the start of 2000. In 2007 Electrolux received the European Commission’s Award 2007 for “a long-standing environmental commitment.”
Much of what we have been able to achieve as a company has been the sum of many small efforts throughout the company. Our message to all of you is that by doing a little, you also do a lot. It’s easy to make a positive difference towards a more sustainable future by making one good choice at a time.
